Weekly Asset Challenge
—by Kelsey Cordingley, BC TAC member

Asset # 30 Responsibility

You accept and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.

Now for the Challenge!

Youth Challenge:

  • Take the responsibilities that your parents and other adults have given you seriously. When you make a commitment, follow through!
  • Don’t make excuses for your mistakes. Own up to your actions!
  • Ask for more responsibility as you get older.
  • Make a commitment to learning and be responsible for you education.
  • Be a role model for your younger siblings and their friends.

Adult Challenge:

  • Be sure that your child or youth employee knows what you expect from them! Make all agreed-upon responsibilities clear.
  • Make schedules for chores.
  • Make contracts which list agreements between your children and you.
  • Set a good example! Be a responsible citizen!

Most parents and other adults note and appreciate responsible behavior in kids, and they tend to reward it with more privileges and freedom. When you are responsible you make better decisions, are less likely to follow others, and you are more confident about your ability to do the right thing. You believe that you have the power to shape your own life!
